There's no real way to compare the Ford vs. the Farmalls. The 861 has live pto/hydraulics, not sure about the Farmall 350/400 though they might(I run H & M) Plus the Ford had a factory 3pt. But then, if that Ford 861 has the same shifter as the 850 & 860 I've run, I thinkt hey are a PITA!!!! On the one I've run the shifter lever has a forward & backward position & then it has an up/down movement of 3 notches to get 5 forward & 1 reverse. Not as bad as the old JD 2bangers, but I like a regular shift pattern. The Ford's not a bad tractor, I'm just partial to red iron! In fact I still like to run that 850 when I can, just don't like to shift it.

300/350/400/450 were all available with live PTO & live Hyd., and Torque Apmplifier. Quite a few even had Fast Hitch, and still had two separate hyd. remote outlets to run hyd. cylinders.

I don't think you are compairing apples to apples here we had a 961 ford and a SM Biiig difference on all fronts except the 961 3 point hitch.

Can't make a Gray vs. Red comparison for you,as I don't have any thing to base it on.But I can say that the 861 is 2-3 times the machine the 8-N is.Kind of like comparing an A to an M.
