Red: I like your question, I don't have the answer but am just as interested in the answer as you are. I personally would like one of my tractors geared slower, for some jobs. I guess the world just looks at your post and says," go slower, we can't do it." They will figure it all out someday, once John Q. public decides they don't have to pay the price or even buy every bell and whistle the multi-nationals put on market.

I just got my Farmall 100 all rebuilt and back together. I was supprised at how fast it was in 1st gear. Another question, is the transmission noise more noticeable in these off set tractors than say an H or M?

Red: Yes I would say noise from transmission is more noticable, particularly in reverse. I think probably some of it comes from final drives as it is more noticable than for example than SC or 200. Those tractors are same to the crown and pinion.

On the speed item, something you may check into is final drices, transmission or crown gear ratio. The experts will tell you there is no difference from SA through 140. I don't buy that one as I have my tractors calibrated in feet per min. for spraying. My 130 with 12.4x24 tires is same speed as Super A with 9.5x24 and the 130 is turning about 150 rpm faster than SA. There has to be a difference somewhere. My 140 has 9.5x24 and is slower than either of other two.
