I have leaking oil pan bolts on an (a) and several people here have suggested permatex aviation sealer. I bought some and applied too a bolt and left it sit for a few days, and this sealer doesent seem to (set up) its just as goopy as the few days prior when I put it on. My question is : is it supposed to set up hard, or stay in liquid form, The container looks like it had been sitting on the shelf for quite some time. thanks

If you got the true aviation permatex it does not setup to a solid state.I am a aircraft technician and we use it on the engie crankcase halves with a piece of silk thread to seal it, never had one leak yet.

they make both kinds, I wouldn't worry about it, just goop up the bolts and put them back; they won't leak.

Just my two cents' worth...had a friend awhile back who used to buy and sell used cars for some side money...he told me that he used Aviation Permatex on the head gaskets on the ones he SOLD, and NOT on the ones he kept...said he didn't wanna be the SOB who got stuck taking the heads off the Permatex'ed engines, 'cause the aviation stuff set 'em up like they were welded on...no firsthand knowledge, just passin' on what the man told me...but from what I DO know, it sounds like what you've used is the Number 2 Permatex...which is what AMC used to recommend on one head bolt that passes thru a water jacket on their V8's...so even if it is, you still should be OK.
