Checking Oil on or Off 1466

I have an International 1466 that I have just bought and my question is do you check the hydraulic engine while it is on or off. Your input in this matter will be truly appreciated. Same goes for the engine.

you always check the hyd and enging oil off and cold on these tractors and run the hyd system 5 gal over full it realy helps these tractors .
