Was the SMTA only made in 1954? I think so but some pricing guides indicate they were produced in 1952 thru 1955.Thanks

Guy
I'm not sure how tractor model years go. If it were a car the calendar year would take in at least two model years . In this case 1954 &1955. I remenmber back in 1966 I bought a new Volvo off the lot and the Dealer had to check a memo from the factory to see whether to title it as a 1965 or 1966. The cars were the same so they just picked a serial number to begin calling them 1966 models. This was back when foreign cars were improved on a continues basis much like Farmall's so the change in year was not a big deal. By what you said I guess all SMTA's are considered to be 54 models?
Thanks

Forget cars -- As Guy said the model year is the calendar year.

Actually, I didn't say that, and sometimes it isn't with IH!

There are exceptions to everything; seems to me in one of your books or articles in RPM, you said that IH began to use the calendar year as the model year beginning at some point in time, although their fiscal year began in Oct or Nov? -- I believe the SMTA was after that date.

IH's Fiscal year started 11-01 and ended 10-31.

MTA's are a screwy situation, because they were actually made for less than a year. Can't remember if there was any bleed over- I know not any 53, couldn't remember if any got called 55s or not.

Model year versus calender year is pretty irregular for IH. While a lot of people say IH didn't make sense doing this or that and it's not true, this is one area where it is!
