Just got back from showing my '46 A to my son's first grade class. They're going on a field trip to a farm tomorrow, and I offered to show them what a real tractor looks like up close. Apparently the farm has animals, but no heavy equipment, so the teachers were really excited to have me come by. The kids had a great time, asked some really intelligent questions, and all had a chance to sit on her for a picture. Best part was when they all went back into the classroom and I started her up. The teacher lifted the windows so they could see.....26 little smiling faces, chin high to the window, all jockeying to get a look. As I pulled away, I waved and yelled goodbye, and a chorus of goodbyes and waving hands followed in unison. An absolute spectacular moment!! The cutest thing I EVER saw. I'll never forget it as long as I live...brought tears to my eyes. Can't tell ya how it made my day!

Thank you, thank you for doing that. What a great idea. I taught school for 32 and one half years,
so I have a great appreciation for what happened here. Now that I'm retired, and can work on my own tractors (I grew up farming in my teen age years) I can see what the possibilities are for
using machinery for educational purposes (and
entertainment. Once again, thank you for sharing this great event on this website.

My HS aged son restored a '49 JD for a "senior project" last year. Displayed it at the 4-H fair this summer, and merited a front page article with pictures in the county newspaper. Recently, he drove the tracor in a local festival parade. Had many cheering for him, including MY third grade teacher! Has become quite a local celebrity! Will be using it next weekend for the motive power for a hayride. Showing your tractors is good public relations..... .

That is one cool story. I about teared up reading it. Well...they might not be able to tell one model from another, but you can bet that when they see another red tractor they'll remember "It's just like the one Doug brought to our school."

Our tractor club puts our equipment on display at a local shopping mall during their ag show every March called "Ag Days". All the local elementary schools send the kids on a field trip to see it. My kids are teenagers now but it was a big deal for them (at the time)to lead their class down to my tractor and show it off to their class. Unfortunately, now that they are teenagers they won't go near them. :( Brian

Doug. I think you did just tell us how it made your day. I had my '50 C in a parade on the 4th of July. A couple of young boys about 9-10 years old said "nice looking tractor". Not the same as a classroom full of 1st graders but it does make you feel good when others appreciate our "babies".

Doug, great story. The sad part is you had to bring your tractor for these kids to see. Remember th good old days when if your dad did not have a tractor, one of your grandparents surely did and if all else failed a uncle. I got my H for one reason, thats the tractor my granddad spent many a hour with me at his side. To me like the kids Dough showed his tractor to, all "real" tractors will forever be red.

Good public relations done here. I had my 54 Super H in our little towns 140+yrears 4th of July parade this year and had alot of good comments. Was asked about 2 weeks ago if I would bring some of my tractors to the same town and set them in the city park for the Fall Harvest Festival,so I did and there were several other tractors in different areas of the town also.
