Getting my Christmas list ready for my wife. :-) If anyone out there has a good M&W hydraulic pump for a 1951 Farmall M for sale, please drop me an e-mail. I'll forward that to my wife.

I'm planning on drilling some post holes. As things are now, the post hole auger would be on the same PTO as my hydraulic pump. Got to have hydraulics to set and raise the auger on the three point. Hate to have that auger spinning at the same time. Sounds pretty dangerous to me. Also sounds pretty hit-or-miss for accuracy.

Years ago I made a pump from a 400 fit on my "M" by using the "M" timing cover. The 2 bottom holes lined up but the 2 top holes were wrong. I made a "U" clamp to go around the oil fill and a bit of a fancy bracket to hold the pump. I had 2 bolts in the bracket that went into the pump just to keep the bracket from moving around. These were welded and ground flat on the dist. side. Then I think I had to tap threads in the bracket for a stud to hold something towards the dist. I have a verticle Delco Remy dist on mine. I busted the timing gears eventually so went with the heavier gears but the pump and bracket has worked for 25 or more years. Nowadays I would go with a timing cover and gears from a 400 or so but I could not find one when I did mine.

I did exactly this same thing to my M this summer. Took a bit of thinking and beer, but works like a charm.

If you can't find a live hydraulic pump, have you considered plumbing your lift-all pump for 2 way hydraulics? That would run your 3pt hitch no problem. I have also seen guys run a pto pump off the belt pulley, but that would require some fabrication work.

Another way to achieve "live" hydraulics is to belt or chain drive a pump from the crank shaft pully. A buddy installs pumps just below and slightly outside the frame rails, it looks neat and professional. The capacity of the pumps he installs is enough to run a big front end loader/stacker.
