at a rut, on a tight budget, and have little equipment (tools etc.). 656 gas needs the overhaul bad.
partsman says "crank must come out" I&T manual says "tractor must be split" and "remove sleeves with a suitable puller."
borrowing a neighbor's shed, no overhead beams...
need advice and poorman's setup (but one that works good) for splitting the tractor and then removing the sleeves. no rental place in the area has sleeve pullers!!! borrowed shop is on a short time schedule as well...
how hard to handle is the 6 cyl block? are the front assemlies really awkward/unbalanced when split? btw it is wide front farmall model. located east of st cloud mn. feel free to email direct .
it's my first overhaul ever... thanks for the forthcoming help!

If ya got a concret floor the rent or buy a cherry picker / engine crane and like ACE said pull the ft. first but take the radator out before ya start this way if it gets away from ya you don't screw up the rad. Pull the engine down to the short block then remove and reinstall the same why and install the head after the block is back in the tractor and the ft. end is back on this way ya only need one jack stand under the bellhousing.

You can do an inframe overhaul and change main and rod bearings and sleves pistons. only need to pull engine if crank is bad or if cam bearings need replaced or main seals. That engine not to hard to handle. If you don't have hoist I would take it down as much as I could before removing from TA housing, take off front end then engine.

the rod bearing and main bearing i have inspected (and had the parts store inspect) show considerable wear, and some spots are unevenly worn. thrust surfaces show copper, and there is a small scored spot. so the crank probably should be inspected and at least polished.

Then you will have to pull the engine.
