Serial number on cub

I have a 66 International cub, and went to pick up a carb kit for it the other day, and noticed on the carb rebuild packages that it mentions engine ser. number.

I'm familiar with the serial number on the info plate on the steering gear box.. but then wondered if there was also a seperate engine serial number?.. or was the kit package being just a bit misleading by mentioning engine serial number as opposed to tractor serial number.

Can someone clue me in on this?

thanks

Soundguy,

There are two and only two original carburetors, as far as the kits are concerned. There's one kit for the IH carb and one for the Zenith. Both carburetors are plainly marked. You may have either one, but your tractor originally had the IH.

Ok, the engine sn is impossible to make out due to the hyd lines in the way. the tractor sn is 227381J as found on the steering gear box.

The carb had only one marking.. a stamped 6-93 on the top flange where it connected to the manifold.

The carb has a few years on it.. but doesn't look lik eit is from 1966.. etc.

I don't know how to tell the two carbs apart.. what can I look for.

The carb kit from TSC specified :

To engine sn 324xxx.. or something like that... Which carb would that kit go to?

I'm guessing the change in the carbs happened when they went to a slightly higher hp engine?

thanks for the info, and if you can help me determine what carb I have I would greatly appreciate it.

I had gotten a few parts from my local case dealer.. but they are just about to the point where they really don't want to do anything for the old tractors.. When i did my service and the oil/filters last time.. they weren't interested in getting me a filter.. or even telling me a cross number... I had to look it up here... also wanted to get a manual thru them.. no go.. had to get it online.. from binder books I think..( nice people ).

again, thanks,

Soundguy,

I THINK your original carburetor has been replaced by a Zenith...the only one available recently. I just went to the shop and checked one. Zenith is plainly marked on THE BACK SIDE!! ;-( Maybe a mirror? The name is on a boss on the float chamber.

The original one would have IH plainly marked on THE FRONT SIDE! :-)

Here's a picture of one of my IH carbs as shown on the ATIS Cub FAQ...

For the heck of it, I'll get a pic of my carb today if I don't get off work too late.. but I think it has got to be the zeineth.. as I would have noticed that IH logo if it would have had one.

Thanks much for the pic. Yep.. That is where my SN on the block was.. but it was obscured by the two little hyd lines running over it.

As for the carb.. mine doesn't look like that, nor does it say IH.. so i must have the zeineth carb.

I dod have a dental mirror.. so I will trying to see if there are markings on the back.. but sounds like what it has to be is the zeineth.

Now I just gotta figure out what carb kit it takes....

thanks

Ok, I went back and looked behind the carb. I doo see a few hand stamped numbers there, but can't make them out as the 2 hydraulic lines are in the way.

My cubs sn on the steering gear box is 227381J

The carb had onlt one marking that I could see... the top flange where it bolted to the manifold had a stamped 6-93

Carb looks like it has a few years on it.. but not 38 ys.. and I don't know what to look for to tell the two carbs apart.

thanks for the help, and any more you can gove me.

I'm a 'ford' man.. but love this cub, and am trying to learn as mch as I can about it.
