The hour meter did a melt down from sitting in the sun too long, (probably years past) but this has caused the internal gears to lock up. I am able to free it up some but it just binds back up. The cable and cable housing are in very good shape. I have checked both ends for rounding off, broken or binding. Also I believe the tach drive gear is stripped because I do not see the cable drive turn while the motor is running. Can I purchase a tach and tach drive gear anywhere aftermarket or still get them from the dealer? I have tried some through the internet catalog searches but only find cables. I would just like to have a working tach that fits the hole. Any help on this would sure be appreciated

Check with your local Case-IH dealership. They probably have the drive gear. I know they still sell new tachs for a few older tractors. If you don't care what the hour counter says, you can find a 350 tach in a parts yard.

The tach drive can probably be found used at Value Built or Bates Tractor, etc. If not, e-mail me, we have a couple of salvaged 300's. Aftermarket tachs can be found at these places also.If you want yours repaired or need more info, e-mail maloybig@msn.com. for repairs and parts!
