I am in the market for a Super M. I was wondering if any years were better that others, and also what are some common things that I need to look out for in this model. Also what is a torque amplifier? i see this on a lot of these but have no idea what it is.

Greg: Super M was only built 52, 53 and 54, and if you want TA it has to be a 54 as that was the only year the Super MTA was built. Prior to 54 the torque tube and rear chassis were different and a TA could not be added. Some of the Super M's had live hydraulics while there may be a few with belly pumps. With belly pump, hydraulic function stops while clutch is depressed. The other benefit of Super MTA is Indenendant PTO, again because of torque tube and rear chassis, it cant be installed on regular Super M's, only transmission driven pto or an M&W hand clutch on those.

Given the construction of the torque tube on a SMTA - it contains the gears and shafts for the independent PTO - you can't have a belly pump... Unless I'm really missing something here...

Yes it actually has both pumps mounted and has TA and live PTO also, I have never seen another with both pumps and was wondering why it is there. Also it has power steering and is a factory propane burner with a single front wheel.

Is it possible to have a Super MTA with a 560 torque tube? Some may consider that a belly pump.

Torque amplifier or TA gives you more speeds and more power. TA in high position is normal mode. TA in low is for added power when pulling plows, etc.

Super MTA would have had the TA. Super M would not have one.

Try to get a tractor with all of the goodies intact (weights, lights, fenders, precleaner, belt pulley, sheilds, etc.) because this stuff is expensive to track down and add back later.
