I know the feeling. Updated this year from a 450 gas to a 656 diesel. We bale mostly side hill ground and the 656 just toys with the baler. we mow and rake with a green 2010 and will haul wagons with a green B if my buddy ever gets it back together.

Kelly: Big difference on power and the live take off. You will continue to break less shear bolts. I found on S-69 baler and 460 haybine, 300 tended to drag down a bit, then governors would hit it and away goes a shear bolt. With the extra power your equipment will run smoother and without the surges. I used 560 and 656 diesels on that haybine for 15 years and don't ever remember breaking a shear bolt. I did break a few on baler but far less than with 300.

That however is the hp cutoff on balers and haybines. Beyond 60 hp all you will add is fuel consumption.

Lot's of fun isn't it. I bale with my 400 all the time and it just eats the hay. Just sit there and stear. I love my 400 too.

I can buy what ever I want. As long as it comes from money I made haying. Maybe after next year.
When you dont have alot in em you dont have to make much to be a head.
The 400 was not planned so am in the hay hole on that one. But all my balers and hay racks, Rake and H and 300 are paid for from this years haying.

I hate to say it, but yesterday I put a new battery in my Ford 3000 diesel that hadn't been cranked in a year and a half and, after a shot of ether, it jumped to life as if I had just shut it down the day before. The diesels are a lot less trouble to work on, but not nearly as much fun as the red gas ones. I intend to clean up and paint the 3000 and get rid of it, and look for something red that needs some TLC. Don't get me wrong, the 3000 is one helluva tractor. I'm just a red man at heart!
