Probably a simple answer for those in the know but,I have a 54' Super A. Serial Number 354898. Short of measuring bore, is there a way to know for sure if this is a 113ci. or a 123ci. engine? I've read some info that leads me to believe it is a 123.

I have worked with C113 & C123 engines a lot here in the salvage yard. Every time some one comes up with a sure fire way to tell the blocks apart. It fails. Casting numbers don't do any thing for ID of the blocks. The only way that I know to tell what block you have is to measure the sleeves at the o-ring sealing surface.

Steve: The Super A1 tractors with the C-123 engine from factory were between serial number 356001 and 357958. Your tractor could well have a C-123 as someone may have changed it over. There are two ways; either someone changed entire engine or someone has changed it during rebuild. All late model Super A's from early 53 on had the C-123 block with sleeves thicker to make it a C-113. That would have been an easy change at rebuild time plus the water pump is easily added.

I rebuilt my Super A (52) and the bore was 3in. but the bottom of the sleeve measured 3 7/16 instead of 3 5/16. I was told that is not right. But it has 3 1/4 bore now. I don't remember the block number at the moment.
