Just picked up a bargin on what looks to be a Super H. Here's the serial number: FBH384827 X1
Could some of you knowledgable guys tell me the year and if it is a Super? BTW it looks to be field converted to LP, so is that what X1 means?

That is definatly a 52 H. You can also identify them buy the motor casting #'s. Ive got a 53 SH and am going to look at a supposed SH sitting in a field that the guy wants to give away because he's selling the land. That would be a great find if it were a later model.

According to Guy Fay's "IH Tractor Data Book" it is a 1952 H. Super H's were not made until 1953 and had the serial number prefix "SH"
Most likely came from the factory as a gasoline engine and converted later.

I was told that one way to tell was that a Super H had cast brake covers and a regular the tin covers. This one has the cast covers, so is there a sn break in the regular H's?

in late 52 & 53 IH was already starting SH - your H got SH brakes like a few other late ones-they just were "useing" up the H parts and finished the tractor with whatever they had..... .IH did that on all the models in "changover" years..... ..to a lot of collectors your H is worth more than a SH because it's more unique/rare (i once sold a W4 for a sizable premium just because it was 19 from the last one made & had "Super" Brakes)..... i have a late 1953 W6 (same story)-i'll get a good premium ,or keep it - cause i know i'll never find another !!
