guys, i'm trying to remove the "upper bolster pivot shaft" to replace bushings.

i have the boltster off the tractor. and the "lower bolster with axle" is removed too.

taking the "upper bolster pivot shaft nut" off, shouldn't the whole thing just fall out the bottom?

As Tim and Cubber said, you gotta clobber it! A piece of wood will work, but if you have a piece of aluminum bar stock about 2" in diameter and 4" long, it'll work better. A heavy brass hammer can also be used without tearing up the end of the bolster shaft. Wear your safety glasses, and be certain the tractor is supported very solidly before you start pounding.

Like Tim said you may have to persuai it a little but yes, thats how it comes out. When you put the new bushings in,stick them in the freezer for a couple of hours or even overnite would be better, then as soon as your ready to put them in,grab then out of the freezer and haul butt to the shop and get then in!Worked for me!

Once the nut is off you might have to tap the the shaft with a block of wood and a hammer while at the same prying between the bolster housing and the upper shaft where the front hitch bolts on. It can be set in there pretty hard after years of bouncing around and hitting bumps. You should be fine , Tim K.
