I found two Farmall M parts tractors. Are they worth anything? They seem to be relatively complete.

Thanks,

Scott

Alot of truth has been said here. The head, tires, rims, fenders, manifold, steering wheel (if it has good rubber), and tin are all items you would probably have no trouble selling IF they are good. Then you will be left with a bone pile of parts that you will have trouble moving. I would guess that you would want to atleast double your money when buying one to part out. I would look the tractors over pretty good to see how much good stuff there is there to part out. I would try to buy them for little or nothing and wouldn't pay any more than half of what I know I could part them out for.

If you can, take a picture and you or someone else post them on E-Bay with no reserve.... Chances are, someone will want them and be willing to take them away. You get rid of them, earn a little ( or hopefully alot ) of money and some lucky person starts a new adventure with a good old tractor!

Brian.

Are the motors seized? Do they have hydraulics, fenders, wheel weights, good tin? Good radiators? Tight front ends(no play in steering?)?

Mike

Actually, there are three of them. They have been sitting for a long time. Two of them are rather complete with odds and ends missing. The other is actually bones, but with many usable parts. I think they both have pumps. What are they worth as parts? I am sure if the engines are salvagable. They might be.

The head is worth something - if it is not a distillate head. Having the heads off and assurances of no cracks makes them more saleable. The crank *might* be worth something, but I couldn't say how much. The fenders, if it has them, are worth something. The wheels are worth something - if not rusted or eaten from calcium. The tin is of value. I might venture to say that an M that is parted out might have $750 to $1000 in parts - assuming everything is there. Just know that you will have to put effort into salvaging and marketing these parts.

If they don't have anything I mentioned, they aren't worth much--IH made a quarter of a million of them. Live hydraulic pumps are worth a hundred at least, 2 way valves 50 or more, fenders at least 100, rear weights 50 per set. BUt if they are lacking all of those and stuck, probably 200 each or a little more if they still have tires that hold air and/or good rims.
my 2 cents.
Mike

If its complete about .05 cents a pound. You should be able to recover your cost when you haul them to the scrap yard. Once you sell off the sheet metal and small parts(assuming they are really good)its hard to get rid of the big stuff. The heavy castings never wore out so there is no demand for them and the larger parts are hard to sell because the shipping costs more than its worth. The Case/IH dealer still provides new parts also which lowers the demand for the used "consumable" stuff.

Those heavy castings did not wear out, but sometimes they did break. There is absolutely no part of a fifty to sixty year old tractor that should ever go the scrap iron pile, unless it is already broken beyond repair.
