Have a free loader w/ bucket that I can put on my Super M. Problem is the cylinders have been extended for about 10 years and are rusty and a bit pitted. The surface rust will be removed first (wire brush?) Will it still work or will the seals be ripped out by the pitting? Leak like crazy?

Also, the loader is on a Super H now. Are the mounts the same for a Super M?

If your cylinders are only single acting ( hydraulic to raise, gravity to come down ) then you don't have to worry about the seals leaking on the rod end. You should try and clean them up as best as possible though becauser there may be some light seals in there just to keep water from getting in there. If it is like the laoder on my 50's super A, the seals on the cylinder rod are leather and may need replacing. Furthermore, you might want to try sanding the inside of the cylinders between the end of stroke and where the piston was situated. If there is rust there is may chew up the rod seals too. If you do need to replace the cylinders, email me, I may be able to get some cheap for you.
Brian.

You may want to use steel wool, instead of the wire brush.

As long as there aren't any burrs or sharp edges on the cylinders then it shouldn't tear or cut the seals. You may want to use emery cloth or something similar to smooth them down. The leakage would depend on how many pits there are and how big they are. The Super M is wider than the Super H so the mounting brackets are going to have to be modified. May want to do some measuring to be sure that the loader is even wide enough for the Super M. A quick call to the manufacturer of the loader could save you a lot of wasted time and effort.

Another trick I have seen used is rubbing with aluminum foil. The aluminum will react with the rust and convert it to a powder.
