I have a MTA that has had the engine replaced with an 450 engine I believe as it appears the number on the block is 281 instead of 264. Tractor is unrestored and engine looks a dirty and as old as the rest of the tractor. Does this lessen the value of the tractor.

Some "purists" may object to the replaced engine but as far as I am concerned it would make no difference. It's still a great tractor and I don't think the value would be any different if I were looking at it as a possible purchase.

I agree, it would make no difference to me. You just shouldn't sell it as an "original" SMTA.

In my opinion, no. May even be more desirable to some folks.

I agree with Rustfarmall, if anything the bigger 450 engine make the tractor more desirable. One really needs to remember there is very little rarity in regards to 99% of these tractors. I love my old 350 Farmall, but if it was restored to the point that it was a trailer queen I would have sold it a long time ago. A great part of the value of these old tractors lies in the fact they are still usefull.
