Yesterday (Saturday, Sept. 27th) I enjoyed going to the plowing day at the Von Bergen farm just east of Hebron, Illinois. It was fun to see a row of older tractors actually plowing across the field. Produce, food, and crafts were also available. This show seems to be growing and you might enjoy it next year if you are in the area.

I was in a plowing match they call it in Big Rock ILL. last weekend. The ground was hard as a rock but we still had a good time! A Super A with 2/12's and a stock BN with a 2/12 little wonder. Might have to check out Hebron next year.

Jenc: These plow days can be a lot of fun, very educational also. I strongly recomend especially if you are a guy new to plowing, get involved. Plowing is a lot more complicated than a lot of people believe. If you are an old pro also get out there and give the new guys advice. For the most part they are wanting to do it right. Moldboard plowing could become a lost art, what with no-till planting and chisel plowing.

I have always liked driving the country side looking at the fine jobs of plowing. Good moldboard plowing is the beginning process of creating a smooth seed bed. I can tell you that has deteriorated over the past 50 years, in spite of sophisticated equipment.

Another thing I liked about it, riding on an open tractor, and smelling that freshly turned earth.

The subject line got me perked up, but alas, it was not in Connecticut. Hebron is the next town to mine, but not IL.

I participated in a plow day recently, small scale, local tractor club, most fun I have had in a while, a bit sore the next day however from pulling that rope, but I'll do it again.

Yep, this was a local event, also...maybe 40 tractors on display and/or plowing. Very friendly atmosphere. A lot of pulling on those ropes that you mentioned.
