I'm 72 but I also read Hugh's comments and life experiences with much interest. He strikes me as being a real gentleman. Sid.

To James and Others: You guys are much too kind. There are a good number of guys on here that are far more knowledgable than I, about tractors and the maintainance and repair of them. Guys who had a career of wrenching, or in parts dept. These guys saw a lot wider range of tractors than I.

I tend to take, like Paul, a light hearted approach to this old iron, and in case you guys haven't noticed that regularly gets me in trouble about once a month with someone. This month it was Steven, last month it was my comment about the 656 tractor being an M with comfort. Back beyond that I don't remember, would have to check the archives. When this does happen I am a pretty thick skinned old guy. It runs off like water off a duck.

When I was actively farming, my average working day ran from 5am to around 9pm. I was truly a workaholic. My good wife and family feared as I got older I would never learn to relax and have a hobby. The hobby did come and it is probably you guys and YT. I spend about 30 to 40 hours per week on YT and personal e mails from people who we have never seen on discussion forums. My hobby is not my three old tractors, other than a fix up every spring I hardly give them the time of day.

I have but one piece of advice for forum participants, don't be afraid of those long posts. If a certain Farmall has X item plus a few other minor items, it takes words to describe it and details are important. One of the most painful items on here is watching someone trying to give advice without enough information.

Hugh, For what its worth you have been a huge help to me. If I remember correctly you too also own an (a) model. I am restoring one and have needed a lot of help along the way, And you have almost always replied to my posts and been 100% accurate on the information that you provided me, Although I do not personally Know you I have a great deal of respect for you, not only for your knowledge but for having the willingness to help someone in need. Most people want paid to help you, or offer no interst unless your buying something from them, Its nice to know that there are still good people like you out there and I think that 99.9 % of the regular people on this board have the same intent. (helping each other)
Thanks,
Jonathan Mirgon

Folks, I reckon that if anyone should owe Steven an apology, it would be "Yours truly" (Me). I chose to put my 2 cents worth in, and probably stirred the pot as much as anyone. My 2 cents worth usually ends up being some sarcastic remark. Having said that, I thought Hugh was getting a bum rap, (still do), and thought a few one liners may put a funny face on the whole issue. Suggesting that someone's tractor may be junk, is probably like suggesting that that person has an ugly baby. It may be so, but he doesn't want to hear it. I guess what struck me is that it doesnt bother me in the least that someone would call something of mine junk, since in most cases it would be the truth, and I didnt think it was such an off beat thing to say in this instance. One thing for sure, I have learned many things about these Farmall tractors by reading any post that Hugh McKay has any input. His comments are always worth reading, and he is so eager to share any knowledge he has with anyone else. I guess my final comment is "Hey Guys, this is a hobby, and it ain't that serious. Fifty years from now, nobody will know the difference."

I really don't know what this uproar is all about and I don't think I want to find out. All I will say is this: anytime I have ever dropped a question or a problem on Hugh McKay, he has politely responded, either with a solution to my problem or with advice as to where I could go to get help.

I think Hugh's reputation on this board speaks for itself. I make it a point to read most of his responces even if the topic is not of high interest. He obviously has a wealth of knowledge not just about old iron but also about life experience. I have never met the man, but feel like I have after reading his thoughts on a wide variety of topics...Thanks Hugh

I agree with James and I always look forward to seeing the name HUGH MACKAY on the posts. Lots of well written knowledge. I`m 73 yrs old, Farmall all the way, and still learn alot from a young person of 61. Thanks Hugh.

thanks james. I feel that way too and refuse to read any posts started by steven h. This board is not the place for that kind of disscussion. Maybe we need a "venting page" for guys that want to be offensive.

I always read Hugh's posts with interest. His posts are always polite and provide a wealth of knowledge to the ones of us (myself) with MUCH less experience with old iron. I consider this THE BEST board in existence for old iron and want it to stay that way.
