On the right hand side in front by the radator there is what looks like a big wing nut. This is where the oil goes in if you change the filter it will take 9 quarts. If you don,t change filter then 8 quarts is enough. I always change filter when changing oil. Hope this helps.

I rarely open a top petcock to check the level. It was intended to be used to make sure distillate tractors did not get overfilled with unburned fuel.

You will be safe to add one quart after oil starts running out the bottom port.

I am just agreeing with what Michael Soldan said, and the amount of oil you need should be about 9 quarts.

Hawgman, the right front of the engine on the housing for the magneto is a screw on flat cap,
the size of a large jar. On the side of the oil pan are two cocks, the oil level should be between...if you open the top and no oil drains out but it does from the bottom one you will know the oil level is between..if no oil come out the bottom you need oil!..I usually add very slowly until I see it begin to seep out the top cock, then I know it is filled..good luck with the M...Mike in Exeter ontario
