I have 503 industrial with a front end loader and back hoe I have about 300 hours on a engine rebuilt. I has set for a couple of years. I decided to sell it this year but while getting it running I had a lot of blue smoke and a knocking in the engine.

I pulled the valve cover and I found two bent push rods, and one missing push rods.
I replaced them but could not find the missing push rod in the upper end. I also poured some
Rislow over the valves and re-adjusted the valve lash, and it was smoking a lot less. but still smoking.

I pulled the Oil pan, and found it had spun a rod bearing to little pieces and I have another rod that's a little sloppy on the crank. It also acts like it has stuck rings.

Right now I guess I would be looking at a used crankshaft, lower end rebuilt kit at least one connecting rod. Plus some seals on the rear axles

Would I be better off? 1. fixing it
2. calling the junk yard and having it hauled off.
3. parting it out and making every one who need 504 parts a really good deal
4. Filling the wash out with the tractor instead of using the tractor to fill the washout.

At the moment I amd strongly in favor of 4.

The problem with rebuilding a motor so far gone is cost. You typically end up with more money than the tractor is worth in it. My Dad just rebuilt his 450 farmall with brand new M&W pistons. We did all the work ourselves including grinding the valves, and it still cost him a lot.
