What can you tell me about this 450 with this S/N?

I found a non-running Farmall 450. (The owner said it needs the gas tank relined and sediment globe reinstalled, otherwise the tank is off) The s/n is 8125 with the letters LCFS. He wants $2000 for it. It has fairly decent metal, 2 point hitch/set up as a 3 point. Missing some chrome emblems on one side. What does the LCFS mean and is the $2000 justified?

The 450 is a 1957. My book says the letter L is for high altitude cylinder head. The C is for LP gas. The F is cotton picker mounting attachment. The S is TA with provision for 540 independent PTO.

Depends on what he means by non-running. If it's stuck $2000 is way too high. Still too high if it's not stuck. Some of the letters do not fit your description of the tractor. (1) L means high altitude cylinder head, that's ok. (2) C means it's an LPG tractor -- did the owner convert it back to gasoline?, and does he have the old parts? rarer if it is LPG. (3) F means high drum cotton picker mounting attachment. Someone who is an expert on cotton picker tractors can explain that one. (4) S means it has a torque amplifier with provision for a 540 rpm pto -- this one is ok. Does the TA work? I would offer him $1500, less if stuck, UNLESS it is a high clearance cotton picker tractor, not many of these made, I don't think it is. Fewer still if it is an LPG cotton picker tractor. PROVIDED it is otherwise as he says it is.

Steve: There was a thread awhile back, probably on Tractor Talk or Implement Alley about a guy in his 90s buying a new Deere 9650 combine complete with 8 row corn head and platform. That is optimism for the masses.

If there"s enough lining still left, use a propane torch and burn off the grease and oil. Be careful not to let it get too hot and warp the band.
