Nice dry wind; temps in the 70s. It was 40 this morning. Are we looking at an early winter. Seems everybody is chatting about block heaters, antifeeze and snow plows. I was hoping that was months away. I am still haying.

Here too 'across the pond'. A very early autumn (or fall whatever!) We have had a very dry August and the grass and trees have suffered. The leaves are coming off the trees wholesale.

Here in Central Mass. some of the maples have started to turn color. Our pumpkins are orange, too. Last Wedesday nite (9/10) there were a couple places south of Boston that hit 35 deg.

Cowman: Don't you guys be talking that way, you have to be an optimist. Here in SW Ontario I still have a months supply of green tomatoes to ripen yet and I do love those vine ripened tomatoes. However I must agrees signes of season are here, corn and beans are changing color, tree leaves are looking a bit shabby and the pumpkins are turning orange. Here frost has hit although rarely in Aug. and just as rare not until Dec. Usually mid Oct.

Still haying? Wow. Hay season is pretty much over in NE Iowa--3rd cutting was dismal or nonexistant.

Here in MidMO we rarely get more than one cutting. Plenty of moisture in the spring but then nothing again till late Aug or Sept.

I hate to tell you but I'm getting the snow plow on my H ready. The animals are really starting to put the fat on and I'm from Pa. They always know
things we don't.

45 degrees here in SW Kansas. Was a weather observer for the K-State Experiment Station for 29 years in addition to my other duties. Recorded the temp and ppt (if any) each day. One thing I learned was that the temp on any given day or series of days was in no way indicative of conditions to follow, just makes for conversation. That said the earliest freeze has been in mid-Sept, latest about Nov 1, average about the middle of Oct. It has frozen in Tribune, KS (west central KS, 3500 feet elevation) in August. It's anyone's guess.
