I have a "new" to me farmall 460 diesel tractor. It has what appears to be part of a block heater on the right side of the block Its a tan color with two prongs sticking out, almost flush with the block) It is kind of an inverted heart shape. Is it IH? What is the rest of it comprised of? Where would you look to find the rest of it? Thanks

Small world isn't it. I live in western Maries Co. MO. I had a 460 diesel for several years. If you plan on using it this winter either get a cord and make sure the block heater works or replace the whole thing. Make sure all the glowplugs are working correctly also. Keep a good battery in it and you won't have any trouble. Stay away from the starting fluid! Good Luck. You are right they are cold blooded. Traded mine for a 766. That ended the cold blooded disease. Can't ask for a better tractor than a 460 once you get it running. Wish I had mine back now.

Thanks for the info. A 766 is a great tractor. I saw one during hay season on ballpark rd set up for bailing.

You are missing the cord, which is essentially a cord rated for heater duty, with a molded plug on the end that matches the connector in your heater.

I don't know where you'd find on in the warm South, but they are pretty easy to come by up here in North Dakota!

Common prices are $5.00 to $15.00 for a new cord, and $20.00 to $50.00 for a whole new heater. sometimes it's better to just get a whole new heater. At least make sure the prongs are clean and shiny before plugging in the new cord, and verify the fit of the cord before plugging it in, as there can be some variation between brands.

One of the more common brands is Zerostart, and I have a catalog from them... I'll check out a heater for a 460 later today, and post back with a price. If you want a cord, and can't find one locally, shoot me an email... I'd be glad to help you out!

Thank you so much, We moved down here from Michigan so I know what you mean. It doesn't last long here, but it gets below freezing some and this 460 is a cold blooded thing!

We live up 44 near Rolla. (Maries Co) The 460 is our only big tractor (our other one is a 424 utility) so we will need it this winter to feed round bales. I replaced two of the glowplugs and it starts better but it's still cold blooded. I plan on switching out a couple injectors and see if that helps. I don't feel like it is developing the power it should. With the info Bob provided, I think I can come up with something. I wasn't sure if the heater was 110 volt or used some kind of stepdown voltage.

Don't ever expect it to start on all 6 at once. I have had mine about 30 years it starts on 4 then progresses to 6 that is the nature of a 460D It is a very smooth running eng. and very easy on fuel. Mine got very hard to start once the started was dragging and we didn't relize it, I have a place on the frame for the batt. and just use 1 12volt with a good batt and starter it should turn over very fast always have to hold glow plugs after it starts for a few sec.even it summer it is a good tractor though. My wife was born and raised just south of P HWY which goes east from hwy 63 in Maries Co. Her brother still lives on the farm there
