I am looking to buy a Super H. I asked the guy for the number on the engine (c-169). Instead he sent me this info "number on the block right near y\the firing order is 358067RI with G16 under it". I know what the number is, but does anyone readily know if this part number is universal or is it unique to a SH?

My Super H was built about 1-7-1954 according to FARMALL records. The engine serial number is 2800 numbers higher than the tractor chassis serial number. Date codes on the block & head castings confirm this being late Nov. & Dec. '53. The 358067-R1 is the raw block casting number, which is the same part number My C-164 has. I know the C-164 can have thin-wall sleeves & over-size pistons installed to make 3-9/16" bore for 169 cid. but it is still a C-164. The 300/350 parts book I have shows that a 300/350 (C-169 or C-175 should have a 364265-R1 block or 362743-R1. The C-164 is located right above the oil filter and is raised cast lettering, kinda hard to read.... Without actually seeing it I'd say You probably actually have a C-164 because of the 358067-R1 casting number, probably the original engine installed in that Super H at FARMALL. There was some coring changes done in the block castings to allow larger diameter sleeves & pistons to be installed in the 300/350's. You couldn't put over-size sleeves in either engine without boring the block, and if the cores shifted enough, sometimes You ran out of iron to machine, scrapping the block. Both IHC Fire-Crater Pistons and M&W normally didn't offer over-sized pistons for the number series tractors, just the letter series.

Super H had a C164, 300 had the C-169. 358067R1 is probably the part number for the bare raw block casting before any machine work was done to it. After IH machined it and parts were added it advanced to an R91 or R92, etc. suffix and typically the base part number advanced a time or two. I have No idea what the G16 is, never noticed it on My Super H. My tractor has the original engine in it, Dad got it after a neighbor traded it off in 1967 and We've had it ever since. I'll check Mine out tonight and We can compare numbers.
