IHC Side Delivery Rake Questions

I recently acquired an IHC side delivery rake, a can't remember the model, but it is the 1970's vintage "New Holland style" rake, wheel driven gearbox, two back tires.

Tere is a chain between the drive wheel and the gearbox, this seems to be the "weak link" in this model, but I may be wrong. I guess the big question, is it a reliable design for heavy use?

Any tips on keeping this rake in to notch condition would be appreciated.

we've got a 16 rake, just keep the chain oiled, fittings greased, and when you go to caseih for new bearings for the end of the bars, get the entire bearing, flange, etc for the new style bearing in the old style carriers knock the grease fittings out of the wheel. and don't go too fast with it, just replaced 4 bar bearings in mine because someone got in a hurry. Grandpa bought it new, no one remembers when, but it hasnt had a year off yet

I have a IH rake as you decribed. mine works very well, I have not broken a chain yet. The only thing that I did is to drill holes in the piviot points at the ends of each roller bar and installed pushin type grease zerks. I like to grease moving parts. good or bad!!!
