Hopefully nothing else will go wrong for a while now.. I think I have had enough for a while.. Well here goes. The M battery seems like it is kind weak and when I try to turn the engine over a small ammount of like colored smoke comes out from around the postive battery cable where the connection is met with the battery.. Anybody know what's wrong?? The other thing is that I have my main work tractor is a Ford 3910 with around 1700 hours on it and the clutch seems like it is not engaging. I can mash the clutch and put the transmission in low range and when I try to shift into a gear the lever just grinds like the clutch is not being mashed down at all.. I tryed craming it in one time and it just started moving with the clutch pedal mashed down. ( However I do know that is not very good for the tractor so I haven't tried it anymore). I have tried adjusting the clutch already and it seemed to have nothing to do with it.. Do I have a bad clutch or tranny problems? What kind of $$$ is this gonna take to fix?? Anyone know? I'm guessing the tractor will have to be split in half to be fixed and I'm afraid that's gonna equal big bucks. If anyone knows what's wrong or has an idea or opinion please let me know.. Thanks again!

Have a 2001 New Holland 5610 that sets outside until my shed is built that had similar problems. After no use for about 3-4 weeks, the gears scraped when engagement was initiated. After consulting the dealer, this is a common problem with their newer tractors that set too long on the lot (no use). Solution: Jerk gear shift into low range and drive around (this might take 40 minutes) while repeatedly pressing in the clutch and aplying both breaks until the clutch breaks free. Put a piece of 2x4 wood under the clutch pedal as a preventive measure.
Recommend putting clutch ajustment back in original position before trying this.

On the M, you need a new + cable. Don't buy one of those clamp-on ends, they are a temporary fix & IMHO, a poor one at that. If its an original 6V, get the heaviest cable you can find, & replace the - cable as well, its probably shot, too. You won't believe how much better that M will start w/new, heavy cables! Remember that M was + ground when it came from the factory. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Well, your 3910 could be a couple of problems. #1 your clutch could be out of adjustment and it is just way out of adjustment. If increasing adjustment does not help #2 you could have dropped a pin out of the pressure plate. I have a 135 MF that did that. I bought it that way, with it being very hard going into gear and when I split it, the pin was laying in the bell housing. #3 this is the most unlikely, some of the linkage that moves the throughout bearing is messed up not engaging it fully. From my work at a New Holland dealership and the work I do as a mechanic, it would be approx $1000 to do the job, parts included. A high estimate would be $1200. If you are some what mechanically inclined, the clutch job is not a big undertaking and I wouldn't be scared to take one on as a novice. Get an I&T shop manual and have fun.
