Has anyone had any experience with this tractor? I was wondering what some good and bad points about this tractor are.

Jon; We farmed with one for years, lots of power, very reliable, very heavy rear end, on the down side it has only 1000 rpm pto and less gears than smaller tractors, and like all IH cabs of that era it was a bit loud in there.they are very cheap hp.

We had both 1566 and 1586, as said they are extremely powerful 2WD machines and great for all day heavy field work. If you looking for cheap power to run the grinder and big bush hog, pass, they are too heavy to manuver and the clutch does not like stop and go (learned that when we had our dozer blade mounted on both for a while).

They truly seemed to be a step up in power over the 1466 and not a "turned up" 1466. Ours spent a lot of time pulling in 3rd low and we never really noticed the lack of a 4 speed. In my area (Kansas) they now seem to be selling really cheap, anywhere from $3500 to $7500 but never see them go any higher then that no matter how good. Don't try to substitute one for a 856 size tractor, they are just too heavy and cumbersome to do the same kind of work.

I have a 1568 (The V8 model of the 1566). Very
powerfull tractor. I have competed in tractorpull against FWA tractors that are a lot newer, and I have had both 1st and 2nd places. The only thing I wish were different is the big jump from 1st to
2nd speed. Very strong 3-point. It will lift my
seedingoutfit weighing 4.500#. I love that tractor. Mine is without cab.
Best wishes, Jens Andersen, Denmark

Very good tractor, axle duals, cab, but need suitcase weights up front to really get a good bite. Didn't miss the 4th gear chopping but we sure did mowing. Real good tillage machine, good on the chopper till that outgrew it, and if you dont have any weights for the front, i hope your not afraid of the occasional wheelstand. Had the cab off for a new t/a (one of the brilliant moves by a kid that my cousin was dating who couldnt read yet was supposed to be a great mechanic, run it without any hytran, then wonder why the dump wagon wont dump), didnt pull real well without the cab. Overall, real good power for the money.
