I have a 1947 Farmall M that has seen a lot of use. It now jumps out of 5th gear regularly. It usually happens like this: I will be coming down a hill on the road, hit the bottom and as soon as the engine starts to pull again, either on level or up a hill it jumps out of gear. When you put it into 5th, you can put it in the 5th position but still not be in gear, uless you pull it all the way back. Is this most likely a worn shifter or is 5th gear worn out? Or something else? Thanks for the help!

This usually indicates a worn bearing in the transmission.

Sounds as if the constant mesh-5th gear assy is very wore on the fifth side and possibly the 4th-5th slideing gearI have good frt.gear assy if you need one.
