66 int cub, carb sticking

I went out to mow with my 66' int cub this morning. Was having a problem with the throttle.. was all or nothing.

At first I thought the governor was malfunctioning, but then got to noticing the valve the throttle/governor linkage moves is sometimes 'sticking'. I slight rap on the carb with a screwdriver makes it unstick, and all is normal. Might do it once, or ten times, then it is gone for 2 weeks.. etc.

Ideas?.. everything else seems fine.. though I need to figure out how to adjust the carb for more power. Governor is responsive to load.. but engine doesn't seem to either rev high enough, or possible needs adjust ment for power, as the compression and ignition is good, etc.

Any advice is appreciated.

Are these carbs available?

thanks

Soundguy, sounds like the throttle plate is worn and binding. Take a look in the throat of the carb, you will see a little round disk on a rod. If the edges of the disk (throttle plate) are worn it will cause it to bind. Not reving fast enough is a gov adjustment. heck out the manuals at the link below for the specs, instructions.

Thanks for the info. After I wrote the mesage, I started thinking about it and figured that the governor would be the controlling body for the rpm.. not specifically the carb ( unless it was adjusted so bad.. etc )
Thanks for the idea about the throttle plate.

If it does turn out to be the throttle plate.. what are my options other than a new carb.

The rebuild kit I saw at TSC only had the rod the plate would attatch to.. not the plate itself... is it something that canb be repaired? like filed or honed?

thanks again.
