John: Each one of Farmall 100, 130 or 140 would have used the serial 4735 as they each started at number 501. A good way to check this out is by casting codes. I am not up on those but several regulars here on YT forums are. If you look at these they are in month and day by number and the year by letter. There is a bit of a blob in casting in between each numeral and the letter. The blob looks like the head of a screw. 100 was built from 1954 to 1956, 130 from 1956 to 1958 and 140 from 1958 onward. Those casting codes could be a year ahead of tractor.

The other item someone may know is engine serial numbers used it each tractor. These were not done in same manner as the letter series tractors. C-123 engines had their serial numbers and did not match tractor or even close.

John: If your serial number is on the bell housing, it sounds as though it is a 100, 130 or 140. All A and Super A had serial number under seat on the left seat support. J stands for Rockford clutch and that was not used until end or very close to the of Super A production. Even if it was a late Super A or A1 the serial number would be 6 digets. The 100, 130 or 140 all start at serial number 501, so your tractor has to be one of the three.

I interpret it to be a 1959 IH 140. The J just means Rockford clutch. If I'm wrong, I'll learn something new also.
