1960 Cub--After mowing light grass for about an hour I noticed tan colored foam coming out of the shifter boot. This is the first time it ever happened. Any idea what's causing this? Wrong oil, too much oil?

Thanks

Careful about using kerosene to do your flushing. Chances are your axle seals will start leaking afterwards. All the gunk will be cleaned off. I wouldn't worry about flushing unless there's a pile of nasty looking garbage coming out when you drain the old oil.

Riverrat--I think I'll play it safe and just drain and refill with clean 90wt and run a couple of hours and then drain and add new 90 wt. The seals don't leak now so I'd like to keep 'em that way. Front engine seal leaks though. Reckon that'll be the next thing to fix.

Andy is right. Drain out the oil and water that is in there, fill with kerosene to the upper fill plug on the left side, drive it around, drain it and re-fill with 90 wt. oil.

Thanks for the good advice. I didn't think about water, since the tractor is stored under cover. I did just get the tractor in the last few months though and haven't used it much. The kerosene idea sounds like a good one too. Would there be any harm in using diesel instead to do the flushing? I assume it's the seals that we have to be concerned about.

Water in the transmission grease, and too much fluid as well. Drain it and put in new to the check hole on the left side and you'll be OK
