A friend of mine has one that I have used quite a lot. It is the gas model with the big IH loader. As Chuck said, poor traction, but 1200 pounds of concrete on the 3Pt cures that. It is a really handy loader tractor, and that loader is pretty strong. The high/low/reverse shifter is on the left where it should be for loader work and works well. On the minus side: I personally cannot operate any loader for very long if I have to push straight down on the brake/clutch pedals, my knees cannot take it. I have also used it some in haying and it has to be the hottest thing I have ever driven. You are tucked down inside the loader frame, and the saddle tank blocks any air movement to or from the rear, the transmission gets hot under your seat, and the muffler is under your left foot. The fact that it is a gas engine probably makes it even hotter, I have driven a diesel, but not long enough to notice whether there was a difference. Probably one without the loader would be cooler.

Reliable tractors, pretty easy to work on,a little hard to start in cold weather. The weak spot is they have really poor traction. Even with weights and fluid, they are no prize. If you can put enough weight on the 3pt. they are a whole different tractor.

IH 574,
Pluses:
1) good utility trator for loader or small farm. 2)If it is Diesel, it would have the German build 239D in it. Neighbor had a Diesel one for many years and had very little problems. If it is a Diesel the injector pump can be easily adjusted to deliver 65+ HP.
3)The 239D is not a fuel hog and will last a long time with minimal maintance.
4)8 speed synco transmission gave no problems. Weaknesses:
1) after many years the hydraulic brakes may have worn seals causing air to get in the lines.
2) same problem with power steering unit that is under the dash, the seals get worn and leak hydraulic oil down over the torque tube.
3) parking brake, if it was accidently left engaged and the tractor driven the transmission/hydraulic system will be contaminated with brake lining material.
4) if it has TA and has not been replaced by now it probably will slip in low going down a hill. When the TA becomes really worn, on a steep incline, with TA in hi, with the engine turned off and transmission in gear, the tractor will roll down the incline. 5) Lucas electrical system on the ones made in the UK but I believe the ones sold in US were package in UK, shipped to US and assembled and the electrical was Delco Remy.

My husband owns a 574 IH British made tractor w/ diesel motor. My question is, does anyone know where we can find a fuel pump (#IHC344033)for it
or have it rebuilt. Any suggestion will be gladly appreciated thanks for your time.

I used one to clean out my barn, borrowed from a good friend. With the loader, it is one handy little unit.
