I just got a Cub and am fixing it up for my Dad. When I bought it the air intake cap was laying beside the tractor, and the air cleaner body and air cleaner oil cup were full of rainwater. My question is can I still use the air cleaner, or should I buy a new one?

Couple years back, I bought a Hebard Shop Mule which is a lowered and modified Farmall A. Drove it on the trailer and brought it home and drove it around some. Then went about replacing fluids. The air cleaner cup had only water in it! No oil at all. It ran fine that way and did not seem to notice the difference. I cleaned it with degreaser and then dried everything, put oil in the cup and it has not missed a beat since. I don't think water in your air cleaner will hurt anything. However, I have noted that these things do accumulate moisture and if not cleaned regularly the moisture in the bottom of the cup will cause corrosion and an eventual leak in the cup.

You could take it to a engine shop and they would "hot tank it" for you- that cleans it up real nice.

Flush it with some kerosene, replace the oil and you should be OK.
