About 30 years ago my Dad bought a used No. 100 balanced head Fast Hitch sickle mower. It mowed about 60 acres yearly for the first 15 years and quite a bit less the last 15. A couple days ago the wobble shaft sheared off at the belt pulley. We haven't checked out current availability and price yet but in the 1997 Case IH price book the price for the shaft kit (which includes shaft, bearings and a nut) was $750. This doesn't look like the simplest thing to replace either. Our first thought is that it's time to retire this mower. Any body ever have this happen or replaced a wobble shaft? Do any used parts exist out there? We would really appreciate any thoughts.

A 990 mower conditioner has the same shaft. The case and yoke inside is different because the belt is on the other side. Sometimes you can get a junked 990 cheap. An IH balance head mower is the best mower ever made in my opinion. The New Holland is all right but it is very hard to change the sickle.

We broke 1 about a year ago found used parts (they were not cheap) and when we were going to put it together the used parts wasn't much better than what we had. Ended up buying a used New Holland at a local dealership in excellent shape very resonable compared to rebuilding the old one. Brian

I have rebuilt these mowers some what deffecult the bearings have to be preloaded right. After the rebuid they must have a run in period, they should never be run over PTO speed and yes they are agood mower if run in properly and not run over PTO speed.

I have a 120 mower with wobble box and I paid $500. for it. I would keep the old one for parts and buy another. They are great mowers.

We previously had a #100 but the bearing in the 'wobble box' went bad and when two attempts to fix it failed, we bought the pictured #100 here for $450 about 2 years ago.
