I was wondering if it is necessary to have the oil slinger on. It is a piece that kind of looks like a big washer, and fits over the front of the crankshaft in front of the gear on the crankshaft. My tractor doesn't have it but that is not to say that it wasn't originally on there. It is listed in the parts book but I am wondering if it is necessary. Thanks for any help.

That oil slinger is meant to keep oil away from the front seal basically. I would put it in when you replace that.

BTW - that is no small job. Figure on pulling the entire front end of the tractor.
