Hot weather gets the H down, too

Twice this week my H firmly resisted starting. Both times I had driven it pulling a trailer a mile or three to a pile of wood chips far back in the woods. I stopped and parked with the magneto/distibutor side in the afternoon sun. It would have been high nineties in the shade if there had been any shade. I loaded the trailer with a pitchfork; after thirty or forty minutes it was time to move the trailer to a new spot. The H spun like a top but didn't fire, Very unusual, it's always been instant to pop off. I messed around with the carb, made sure there was gas but not flooded. Then I pulled the coil wire and checked the spark. There was a visible spark, I couldn't tell how strong what with the glare of the sun and the tears of desperation. After a while (five or ten more minutes of trying off and on) it suddenly stuttered and ran. I could not detect anything unusual about the way it ran. Both times I left it running while I finished loading the mulch. When I got back to the shed I shut it down and after a few minutes tried to start it. It may have turned over a few seconds more than usual, but then fired up like normal. So, any ideas? Coil? Vapors? Magnets overheating?
I have never understood electricity.
Thanks, Wm

Get it in a dark place maybe at night and watch around the coil tower while running or trying to start, if you see leakage (spark) jumping to ground, the points are the likely problem, (to close) a lot of times if the engine dies because water on wires open up the points and it will likely run. Of course this is when all else is in fair to good shape.

Hey, I like that. Thanks, now I have an excuse to go down to play in the tractor barn at night. :-)
