Hello, I have just pulled the steering wheel assembly out of my 1466 for the second time in about 10 engine hours. I can see that once again the big sleeve like rubber seal has failed on the steering gear "motor". The seal is about 3 inches in diameter and is about 4" tall. This time I can see it has been pushed up and out of the metal collar it fits under, I suppose by hydraulic pressure. I just replaced this seal about 10 hrs ago. That one had become stiff and unpliable. That one was only about 4 years and 40 engine hours old. Anyone know what might be making these fail? Could the steering mechanism be worn? Perhaps a relief valve is not opening somewhere. Thanks for any thoughts you might have. YC

We have no luck installing seals in the hand pump. There should be just leak off oil at that seal it is a low pressue seal. Sorry to say the only way we repair them is to replace the hand pump.
