My 94-yr-old grandfather passed away in January and we are preparing for an estate sale next weekend. He had an early 1940s Farmall H tractor that he had had since the mid-40s and maintained lovingly. He continued to use it in his garden until 2-3 yrs ago. It has original paint, tools, two plows and mower and other attachments. Can anyone give me any idea what it's worth? I'd greatly appreciate hearing from you.

I just recently purchased two of my dads farmalls from the man he sold them to in 1989. If you have no interest in farming you should still consider keeping the tractor as it is a direct link to your past generations. I learned how to drive on one of those old tractors and every time I look at one sitting in the field I can see my dad sitting on it with his straw hat on. I am better suited to a more modern tractor for work around the farm, however those two old 300's will still be on my place until I am no more. Hi John A, the LP SMTA is progressing slowly but none the less progressing

Pat, I second what Matt K. said. If ya'll sell this tractor, You will wish to the Lord above that you hadn't. This subject has been talked about at great lengths here. This ol'Darlin, no matter what her shape is a direct link to your granddaddy. If it were mine there isn't enough gold in Ft. Knox to buy her from me! The blood, sweat , and tears that have been shed on her, The prayers that have gone up from that seat! The songs the ol girl would sing if she could, She learned them from your granddaddy! I know this to be true for these things I feel in my heart about my Daddys ol'M. When I climb up onto that seat.
Don't sell her! Good Luck,
John A.

Where are you located? I've been looking for an HM mounted plow.

Pat,for the money it will bring, you will probably
wish later on that you had kept it in the family.
Just something to consider before it goes,my
grandfather had an M he farmed with that was
sold when I was still a young boy,it would have
been nice to have around to pass to my kids.

Too many variables to say for sure, and location means a lot too. Remember, IH made a lot of H's, more than any other tractor they made, so they are readily available.
In my neck of the woods, the tractor might bring $750 to $1750 depending on condition. The attachments are more difficult to price. At some auctions implements and attachments sell good, sometimes the auctioneer has to beg to get a bid. Hard to tell what they might bring.

Depending apon where it is, tire condition, paint and actual mechanical condition, and exactly what all implements, $2500.00 for all is a plus or minus price.

Keep it and give it to your grandkids! It will be priceless to them. We are only the caretakers of the old iron and to have the opportunity you have to keep something such as a tractor in a family for generations is priceless. I expect my 63 year old H to be around another 63 years+. It is NOT a family heirloom now but I will see that it gets a good home when my time's up. I wish it was my dad's old tractor but at least I know he farmed with similar models in a time when the mules were replaced with tractors. I have an old Winchester that was my great granddad's that is worth about $1500 to a stranger, but to me it is priceless and will never be sold.
