Adapting rear wheels from another tractor

I need some help. I am trying to adapt some wheels that have a 6 lug on 6" pattern to 5 lug on a 4 1/2 " pattern. Seems easy enough...have a machine shop make an insert to bolt onto the 6 on 6 pattern rime with the correct 5 on 4 1/2 pattern to bolt onto the axles.

I assume you could do the same thing for different sizes as long as you are going from a larger pattern wheel to a smaller pattern axle.

Is it really that easy or am I missing something?

Thanks a bunch!

BB

That would work. What are these wheels going onto? If it is a piece of farm equipment that would be ok. If they are going on a trailer or anything else that will be rotating at high rpm's going down the road then this wouldn't be such a great idea. You would have to get the tires, rims, and adapters all balanced together. Your local junk yard should be able to get you a set of rims that will fit your tires or get a set of tires that fit your rims.

Thanks Randy...

I found some wide floatation tires mounted on rims intended for a Ford or Massey Ferguson compact tractor. Price is rock bottom. Application will be for 8 mph or lower usually aroung 4 mph for mowing (IH 184).

The rolling radius is about 8" larger than the 9.5X24s I'm using but the change is relatively small. The radius is about 2" greater but I think there is enough clearance.

I figure if it is withing a millimeter or 2 of center t shold be OK. I may try to find some 5 of 4 1/2" pattern rims that they can cut the center out of and either weld in or bolt on.

Anyway, thanks for the input.
