I have had a loader on my M since I bought it 4 years ago. I never knew what kind it was because it is not marked. Finally, someone looked at it at a show and knew right away that it was a Horn loader. I am just basically looking for more information on this type of loader, more info on the company, original color of the loader, etc. If anyone knows, I would greatly appreciate any knowledge someone my have on this loader. Thanks much.....

It has a very similar design to the Case 101 loader on my '51 SC, if you go to tractor photos and do a search on Case SC you will find a picture of it. THe main design difference is the arms from the axle brackets to the bucket are curved upwards so it can be used on wide front tractors

I just love these old loaders, brings back memories of wrestling with a hand clutch, no live hydraulics, and a huge load of wet snow in the bucket and naturally a narrow front end with out power steering!

We've got one that came on our '49 JD B. Suprisingly well built, and tremendous lifting power, in spite of it's somewhat curious design. Also appears not to put much stress on tractor frame (or torque tube) like some loaders.
See below for pictures of ours! Ours appears to have been origionally red - probably very close to Farmall red. (Would that ever look out of place on a JD?)

I can only add that the Horn is a "New Idea". I don't know if New Idea manufactured them or if there was a company called Horn that made them for New Idea.

I bought one at a sale for $10 last year..... ...Has a pipe frame and the cylinders lift(Push upwards) to the rear of the tractor..... ...The way I was told, NI bought out Horn Loader Company for its loaders, but kept making them for NI under the NI-Horn name..... .Later the Horn badge was dropped. I just finished painting mine after I rebuilt the cylinders. I painted mine NI green and orange because I think that looked better than the pure orange they were..... ....I run ours on our 400..... It will pick up a pretty decent amount of weight for it being a old design loader!!!!

Need any help, let me know..... .I can seen digital photo's after I get mine put back on.....

Yes, they are o-rings..... ..Their are oil seals at the ends of the cylinders which any automotive bearing supplier can get..... ...It cost me $13 for seals and o-rings, $10 for the loader, and $50 for all the hoses and fittings..... ..... That ain't to bad considering that it is much better than a fork ;-p

the 'seals' in the cylinders are orings. just take the cylinders apart and get new ones.
