Hugh, Thanks for the tip on the exhaut manifold. That pipe almost jumped out of the manifold with that method.

Scotty: I thought you were a bit skeptical when I passed that on. When I was told how to do that, I know I looked at the guy as though he had two heads. I was miles from nowhere, with a 1/2" male hydraulic fitting broke off in a cylinder, and had few choises.

For those of you wondering what this is all about. On pipe broken off in a fitting, take a bare hack saw blade, put some electrical tape around middle for a handle. Make four cuts on inside of pipe, just to point of threads, in other words 1/4 it. Then using a series of cole chisels, as suits the situation, you collapse the male pipe. On the 1/2" hydraulic fitting I was doing we had to grind the back off the hack saw blade so it would fit inside the 1/2" fitting. My biggest surprise was how quick it happened.

Now if I could only remember all the tips I've picked up on here when I really need them. Well I guess that is what the archives are for.

This particular tip though was a keeper.

Happy Farmalling guys.

EZ: I find these are a lot easier to remember when they are forced on you by need. My need was, I was out in the bush with a broken down log truck, minus 20 temperature, a good samaraten logger with a pickup and nearest town he advised had only one possibility. That machine shop operator sold and slimmed the hack saw blade, sold me the tape and loaned me a set of chisels. The logger and I got back to the sight and had a new hydraulic hose on and machine operating in 10 min. At minus 20 that becomes awfully easy to remember. With the temperatures you get in Hornpayne it would stay with you a very long time. August may be a poorer time to remember.
