I'm looking at disking my new pasture this coming week. I'm hopefully going to be using my Farmall 504 gas good TA. I've got one set of wheel weights on the back tires, 70lbs weights on the front tires, and a full stack of suitcases on the front (about 750lbs). I've got another set of rear weights I could put on the back tires if needed. I'm not exactly sure how big the disc is, haven't seen it yet. The guy I'm borrowing it off of uses a 4wd Belarus (about 48 hp). About how big can the ole girl pull? The ground is pretty flat and straight. Their is one hill about 20-30' raise over a 60' run. Hoping the 504 will handle it. I've already had a JD in there plowing it, it would be nice to see an IH finish the job. Thanks!

are the back tires loaded? if not, off the top of my head, i'd say you need the extra set of rear weights, and may need to lose some of the front weights. watch what the front tires are doing when you start. if they are cutting way in, you probably could take a few (not all!) off the front without compromising safety. the 504 should handle a 10' disk ok, maybe not too fast though. if its pulling too hard, just don't let the disk cut in all the way the first time over, til the ground gets settled. the second time over, it will pull easier anyway. no need to let the jd guys have both jobs.

sounds like plenty of weight. How does the 504 pull itself around? I think an 8 ft disk is about right if you want to put it in the ground.

It pulls itself around pretty good. I have a ground driven manure spreader, heavily loaded I don't really know is't back there. I don't belive the tires are loaded, the next drawback is the one is starting to show alot of wear (about 30% tread left). Should find out tomorrow!
