I need a tandem disk for my super M. What size disk would my super m handle? I need one that cuts pretty good & not just a finishing disk. Thanks.

gorilla: If you want a great cutting disk go for a Cockshutt or an Oliver. I will garentee you no stock SM will pull a 12 foot version of those with wheels off the ground. My 40 plate Cockshutt disk puzzled 560D and 656D by times. I can assure you I never got the disk wheels off the ground.

I don't necessarily think you have to go to any specific brand of disk. Go for the disk with 18" or 20" blades 1-1/4 arbor bolts and 5" diameter spacers between disk blades. In my area there were a lot of light IH and JD disks sold, just gave them a bad name. When you get 18" and 20" disks going arbor shaft deep in soil you've got a load.

If your SM does not put out 55HP it needs overhaul we always pulled 12 ft disk with SM wheels off ground.

You have about 35-40 HP to work with, depending upon what shape your M is in, and whether it's been rebuilt for more power or not (the rear end may not be able to handle the increased torque if it has). I've found Hugh McKay's rule of thumb, 1 to 1-1/4 HP per disc to be just about right for conditions around here (Colorado plains). I certainly wouldn't go any bigger than 10 feet (about 32 discs); eight feet would be better if you're planning on working plowed ground or hoping to get good results in one pass in ground that hasn't been worked for a while.

Speaking from experience, it's a lot more fun to have more power than you need than the other way around. Good luck.

You can pull 12ft. disk I did for years, most SM run around 50 hp. If you have MW pistons a little more, don't worry about rear end it will hold up just fine.

I remember that in East Tn. we sold a lot of the model 19-B 20disk for the M AND Super M's--had 22 inch cut out disk and the spacing was 9" if I remember right. Often pulled a peg or spring tooth behind it. Super M--3rd gear.

Your Super M will play with a 10' disc and pull a 12' anywhere just fine with the wheels up!! Cmore

We pulled an eleven ft Krause with ours. We had varing field conditions. Some places it would struggle and some places it would cadilac right along.
