Does any know the difference in horsepower in a D282 in a 706 and a D301 on a 715 combine and is there a lot to change replacing the 282 with a 301 in a 706? HP on the 282 in the 706 is around 72 but have never heard the hp rating on a D301. Is the only difference piston size?

20 more inches, maybe 5-10 hp, D301 was the highest hp of that engine but it was stretched to its limit above 2000 rpm. It was a old design copied from IH truck gas 6 cyl, converted to diesel, combine engine usually had no sleeves, you bored the block, IH claimed they couldnt get the heat transfer with a sleeved engine, I suspect also that it was a cheaper engine to build.
