Was mowing wheat stubble yesterday with 300 RC and 27V mower. Got to wishing I had a tach to tell me what throttle setting equaled 540 RPM on the PTO. ( I seem to remember the IHC tachs were marked that way!) I adjusted the throttle until the mower "sounded right" and started counting notches - guess what? The notch I was using was marked by scratches obviously made by previous owner for the same reason. Thanks old Farmer! Now did he mark the throttle based on fact or like me it just sounded right? Anybody have a RC 300 with Tach that can tell me which notch = 540RPM? Thanks guys. Dick Davis

We marked the throttle position on our SC by counting the RPM of the plunger on the IH 45 baler.
If I remember correctly 540 RPM was supposed to be 45 strokes/minute of the plunger on the 45 baler. Then used a hacksaw to put a mark at the appropriate throttle notch. The JD 420U that we had was equipped with a tach and 540 PTO RPM marked at 1850 ? RPM.

I didn't know you could run a 300 fast enough to dangerously exceed 540 rpm.

i found a tachometer for checking things like that its kinda neet you hold the thing on the side of the engine and rev her up till it reaches the rpm you want then mark it out the divice works of vibration i was a little leary till i tryed it on a few things that have tachs and it is right on the money

They where there for a reason could be for running the baler, cultvator, corn picker, lister and the list goes on. Could be there for the son to know how fast to run the rake. It brings back memories. Thanks
