Bad gears are in 340 Farmall, not many parts tractors in southern minnesota. I know I can drive it forever like this with no load, but I would like to work it once and awhile. Looks like the bearing went out and fell in the teeth. The teeth are all there, but I can feel resistance when turning the gears in the damaged area. Any advice or parts available? Will any other tractors have similar gears?

Check into the Farmall 300, 350, and 460. I couldn't tell you if they are even close to being the same, but those are the most similar models. Try Tri-State Tractor Parts in Downing, WI. If anyone can help you, it's them.

Did you find the bad bearing?

Or was it sold to you after someone "fixed" it?

If it were mine, I would assemble it and run it without regard to the gears. Make sure the back lash is right.

The gears will probably smooth out and run fine but with noise. The worst you'll do is have to look for gears in a few years.

I wouldn't try to jerk big stumps out with a large chain though. Of course, I don't like to jerk any tractor against any load.
