Still waiting on Grandpa's #300

I wrote awhile ago about finding and wanting my Grandpa's 1956 #300 really bad and what price I should pay with this guy knowing how bad I wanted it, well he called me and had me look it over about two months ago and then said he wasn't ready to sell yet, I hid $1000 so I wouldn't get a new couch but he hasn't called back? Should I approch him again or just wait it out? Trying to vent!!!

I just got Grandpa's 43 sc case he bought new back I've been trying sense 1983 to get it

if the reason for him not selling it because he needs it is understandable . but in that case i would offer him tofind another tractor of equel value yoe and pick up the cost ,and take the 300 home. but if he wont sell it to you for fair market value just because he wants you to overpay for it is just sellfish, hope hes in your shoes someday .russ j

For $1000 there is no real reason for him to part with it untill he is ready to. It will always be worth $1000 just about any time.

Your choices are as I see them.
#1 wait him out until he is ready. The bad part about that is some one else might just be lookin when he is in the mood. Also I know if I found my Grandpas WD45 I couldnt stand it. I would be all over it like flys on poop.

You are kind of at a disadvantage now. He knows you have more than just a small interest in the tractor. The price just went up.

If it was me I would bite the bullet and give in. I would go talk to him and maybe tell a little fib. Tell him you have a family reunion coming up in a few months and was just thinking how great it would be to have that 300 all fixed up for all of Grandpas kins to see. What would he have to have to make a deal now?
You can always say no and go back to waiting him out.

I would pester him about it every six months or so until he gives in. Dad knows one guy who pestered the owner of an Oliver 1800 for seven years before the owner sold it to him. Hang in there.

I'm in the same position with my Grandpa's '29 Regular. Since the current owners won't set a price, and they know how much we want their tractors, all we can do is wait them out. Having you look at it was more than likely just a tease to see in your eyes how much you might pay!! Been there, done that too! I have youth on my side. Good luck with your wait, and in the meantime, find another cheap tractor to tide you over and ease the strain. But don't get another 300. Hope this helps.

I did a bit of both to get '67 Cub that I wanted real bad. I would jokingly ask "how's my tractor doing?" about every time I saw the guy. About 1 year later after asking him to sell (which he said he would never sell) He asked me if I was still interested. In your case, is the guy actually using the tractor daily? is it a yard ornament? Or is it tucked in the back of his shop with a pile of junk on top of it?
If he's not using it, chances are he will see your way. Be patient, and never show how badly you want it. It will drive him nuts, til he sees it on your lawn.
