International Baler Won't Tie

Hi, I would like to help a friend at work: he has an old baler he just bought that seems to be in good condition, but it won't quite tie. Apparently the bill hook won't release the knot; he says it does not seem to have a wiper arm like a New Holland. Can anyone advise? A man is in enough trouble fooling with a baler that works, much less one that won't work.

If it is like mine, there should be a place to adjust the tension for how hard the knot will pull off the knotter. If adjusted to loose it will make loose knots, and if adjusted to tight the string will break before it comes off the knotter. This may or may not be the problem. Everything has got to work just right or you won't get any string on your bails. Start at your rolls of twine, make sure you are using the right twine (mine takes 9000), and make sure it is good twine. Make sure it feeds through all the little loopes and holes and stuff without hanging up (should travel somewhat freely without hanging up). Make sure you have got all string and crap cleaned off the needles, knotters and everything before you try to make a bale. Lase the string through the needles the right way and run it through the string cicle. You might have to cut off the string where the knives would of, had the bailor made a bale correctly. Now then, make one bail and as soon as it runs the string cicle (makes 1 bail and knots it) stop the bailor and make darn sure the knives have cut the string on the bail that is made (if you shut the bailor down in time the knots should still be on the knotter). You should be able to pull the string on the bail by hand, and pull the knot off the knotter. This way you are right there to see what is happening when the knot comes off the knotter. Should be able to pull knot off without breaking string. If you break string first, you either got bad string or you need to adjust the tension on the knotter. The next bail will push the previous bail back (pulling knots off the knotter) after it has made about 1/3 of the next bail depending on how tight the bailor is set under functional operation. My trouble was, first I had wrong string, then I had trouble with it hanging up, then I had trouble with the knives not cutting. I cut alot of string off the knotters untill I got it working right. I would of been better off checking every little thing out rather than going through all the grief I did in the feild.
